Milton straddles the King and Pierce line on the shoulder between the Puyallup valley and the upland, so lawns here sit at different heights above the same valley. The upland side runs to glacial till with a cemented layer near the surface, the kind that perches winter water. The lower ground drops toward the valley floor and its river deposits. Which side of Milton you are on decides which problem you have.
Core aeration works the top few inches — the root zone, where compaction from construction and foot traffic actually sits. It does not reach the dense glacial layer 20 to 40 inches down, and nothing a lawn service does will.
